Solar Decathlon Team Unveils Home Design
By Katy Human
December 12, 2001

The University of Colorado’s student "Solar Decathlon" team will unveil its latest model solar home design this evening at the CU museum.

The group of engineering and architecture students are working on a structure that will generate enough energy to meet daily household needs and power an electric vehicle. Next fall, they will build their small house on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to compete against 13 other teams in the nation’s first solar technology and renewable energy contests. The decathlon’s 10 judged contests include overall design, livability, lighting and refrigeration.

Business and journalism students are also working on the project, helping to raise money and interest.

Tonight’s event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the CU Henderson Museum, on Broadway near 15th Street.
