December 12, 2001
The University of Colorados student "Solar Decathlon" team will unveil its latest model solar home design this evening at the CU museum.
The group of engineering and architecture students are working on a structure that will generate enough energy to meet daily household needs and power an electric vehicle. Next fall, they will build their small house on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to compete against 13 other teams in the nations first solar technology and renewable energy contests. The decathlons 10 judged contests include overall design, livability, lighting and refrigeration.
Business and journalism students are also working on the project, helping to raise money and interest.
Tonights event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the CU Henderson Museum, on Broadway near 15th Street.
