Engineering Features - Daylighting
Daylighting is maximized throughout the spaces through the use of light colored surfaces. Clerestories on the southern, northern, and eastern facades supply controlled direct beam and diffuse daylighting high into the central kitchen space and adjoining office space, providing ambient light. View windows in all the spaces provide additional daylighting and admit winter gains directly to occupied spaces; operable shading devices provide glare control, if desired, in the spaces.
Radiance, a lighting software tool, was used to determine projected daylighting levels throughout the building and subsequent energy savings due to turning off the electrical lighting.
