Integrated Teaching & Learning Laboratory (ITLL)
The College of Engineering and Applied Science has recently undertaken an educational reform initiative that models the real world of engineering where skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership, as well as the ability and self-confidence to define and solve open-ended problems, are demanded. The ITLL, a 34,000 square-foot hands-on learning facility that opened in January 1997, is the visible manifestation of the College's commitment to a fundamental change in engineering education. In the words of Joe Bordogna, Director of Engineering for the National Science Foundation, "The ITL program presages what 21st century engineering education will be about. You are truly a giant step ahead into the future." More recently, the College has embarked on a Discovery Learning Initiative to better integrate research activities with undergraduate education the Discovery Learning Center is currently under construction.
